Easter in Bilbao takes place between late March and April, depending on the liturgical calendar. During this time, the city comes alive with processions, traditions and a special atmosphere in its streets.
The main processions take place in the Old Town (Casco Viejo) and the city center. Many pass through iconic places such as Plaza Nueva, Santiago Cathedral and El Arenal, where locals and visitors gather.
One of the most important traditions are the processions organized by Bilbao’s religious brotherhoods, which walk through the historic center carrying religious statues accompanied by music and traditional clothing.
During Easter, traditional dishes such as bacalao al pil-pil or bacalao a la vizcaína are very popular, as well as sweets like torrijas. It’s also the perfect time to enjoy Bilbao’s famous pintxos.
With 2 to 3 days you can explore Bilbao’s highlights, including the Guggenheim Museum, the Old Town, the riverfront and the city’s incredible gastronomy.
The weather in Bilbao during Easter is usually mild, with comfortable temperatures for walking around the city. While there may be some rain, there are also many pleasant days to enjoy terraces and riverside walks.
